James Richardson took on a role in the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU), which aims to provide more frequent and faster trains between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York.
Richardson started when the program employs more than 5,000 people and has gained more than 70 miles of active sites.
He states:
“We have only been here for a few days and our commitment to success has been revealed in our first meetings with talented teams and key stakeholders.
“We're helping to change the trips of the Northern trains. It's great to get started.”
The program has already invested more than £500 million in local businesses, and 85% of the workforce living within 40 miles of the route is being adopted sustainably.
In 2025, another section of the route will be fully electrified, with more greener service expected between York and Church Fenton by the end of the year.
Richardson has extensive experience in major programs. His latest post is the managing director of Skansako Stan Strabag Joint Venture, which offers the HS2 London Tunnel.
