The West Yorkshire Police Wildlife & Rural Crime Team posted an appeal on its Facebook page just after 10am this morning.
“Sadly, a deer was killed by a poacher on the bridleway between Nottingley and Darrington.”
The post came with a photo of the animal lying in the middle of the route in the wooded area and a location from “what3words.”
The deer is said to have been killed by a poacher on the Bridleway between Knottingley and Darrington (Image: West Yorkshire Police) The Geocode system assigns a unique combination of three words for each 3 metre square of the world, with the deer code being “sideburn Stritic.hoseshoe”.
Police have identified the exact location of the deer just south of this in a small wooded area near Stapleton, accessible via Bankwood Road and various tracks north, and pointed the crime to the south. I did.
