Band Hezilla was founded to celebrate the music of Grammy-winning artist Joni Mitchell and will perform in York on Thursday, April 10th at the National Early Music Center.
The band previously performed a sold-out show at the venue in October 2023.
Hezilla guitarist and bandleader Pete Oxley said, “Hezilla rapidly went from the first “one-off gig” to a highly successful touring band, set to celebrate Joni Mitchell's music. It's a blossoming project.
“The band in particular will perform masterpieces that Mitchell filmed on his 1980 live album Shadows and Light.”
The band's name comes from Mitchell's eighth studio album of the same title, released in 1976.
Pete said the band members were not only skilled jazz musicians but also huge fans of Mitchell.
Hezilla is kept in front of him by vocalist Hatty Whitehead, who plays guitar using Mitchell's stylistic mannerisms.
In November 2023, Hezilla performed at the EFG London Jazz Festival, and the concert was recorded for a live album. It was released under the Spin Jazz Productions label.
York's gig features many of Mitchell's most beloved songs from a selection of Coyote, Woodstock, Sharon's Songs, Help Me, Amelia, Summer Lawn Hissing, Your Case, and more.
