Robert's, the market's Italian restaurant, announced it had been shut down on its website and social media late last month.
According to Tripadvisor, the restaurant opened in 1987, making Buttry the third best restaurant in town.
A heartfelt message from Mauro, Maria, Razia, Sarah and other Team Roberto follows in the footsteps of the late Giovan Nicci Pressi, who was in charge until 2002, saying he has been “blessed” to run a restaurant for over 22 years.
The message added: “Since we first visited us as toddlers and newborns, we have seen some of you grow into beautiful adults.
“We loved being part of this amazing community and have made so many great friends – you know who you are.
“It is a heavy heart for us to share with you that Roberto is no longer there.
“We made the difficult decision to close the doors of our beloved restaurant.
“It was an incredible ride, with joy, excitement, seemingly insurmountable odds and valuable learning moments.
“We are filled with great pride in everything we have achieved as a team, and that passion and effort is at the heart of our journey.
Thank you for your customer's “belief and trust”
The team has thanked its customers for their “confidence and trust” over the years.
The message added:
“Your unwavering friendship and we were the driving force behind our success.
“It was an honor and a great privilege to entertain you over the last 22 years.”
“It's so sad to see this wonderful gem close the door.”
Comments were turned off in the message on the restaurant's Facebook page, but there were over 500 reactions, many of whom showed Roberto's love and appreciation, but mixed with the sadness he had on the news.
It was also widely shared with Birkenshaw-based beauty salons, which have expressed gratitude to Roberto.
The post states: “It's so sad to see this wonderful gem close the door.
“We shared a lovely evening with you and you will really be missed.
“I wish you and your team all the successes in the future and look forward to where your next step will take you.”
Future plans
The message from Roberto ended as follows: “This chapter is coming to an end, but it is full of hope for the future.
“We are confident that our paths will cross again and look forward to sharing exciting news with you all in the future.
“If you want to get in touch with us in our next chapter or follow us, drop us a message.”
That future could be on the horizon, and Roberto offers details of his potential plans in dealing with social media posts.
The business said it was “moving to a much smaller venue in Leeds' Meanwood area, directly across from Waitrose Supermarket.”
